Biography of a Revolutionary
(Matthew Webb, Founder of the World Mind Society)

I was born November 5th 1964 in Portland Oregon, and spent the majority of my childhood years in the remote woodlands of that region. During this period there were literally very few neighbors, and as an only child, I had much time for reflection and nature-study.  As early as my 5th year, I recall experiences which may be put under the category of “spiritual revelation” or “altered states of consciousness”.  Most of these occurred while in the woods, and would become the eventual basis for many of my writings and practices decades later.  It was in 1969 for instance, when I could “feel” or “sense” that there were “many others” who thought in a way similar to myself and that, “we must come together”, to act on this similar knowledge, (Intent).  I yearned for many years for these “others” to find me, so that we could do what we came to do in this lifetime. This “mission” or “reason for incarnation” I realized decades later, was to align together the Divine essence in our souls, so that a new Age of world enlightenment would be brought about.

When I was seventeen I joined the Navy for five years, and even at that time I knew that this would be the darkest period in my life.  The US government I discovered, is not the respectable, well managed employer which the unsuspecting might otherwise be led to believe.  I bathed in the unmistakable aroma and flavor of corruption, mismanagement, waste and fraudulence.  It became apparent that there was something gravely wrong with the mainstream status quo, and even though I was very vocal about this, I was never the less promoted at every opportunity and was honorably discharged.  Exactly how this happened I’m still not sure!  My travels on two different ships around the Pacific rim, showed me the poverty and also the richness of other cultures, and these experiences became an inspiration.

While in the Navy I was married, and this relationship lasted for 7 years total, (we had no children).  After five years of remodeling and reselling houses for a profit in Portland Oregon, we parted ways, and I traveled south to California on what might be called “a quest for those of a like mind”, (my ex-wife was not one of these).   Two years before I left Portland, I founded a local meditation group known as the World Mind Society, which at that time was highly experimental, and wrote several monographs for use in that period.  For the next several years I lived in my own RV converted van, and participated in many organizations and groups.  Among these were the Rosicrucians, the Order of Thelema, Dreamchild of San Francisco based upon Egyptian magical traditions, a meditation group based upon the teachings of Alice Bailey, and two different Wiccan covens.  I also became an avid student of the teachings of Jiddhu Krishnamurti, Emmanuel Kant, and Carl Sagan, as well as Baghwan Shree Rajneesh.   My writings began to take on what I like to think of, as the best of both the Western and Eastern worlds.  An emphasis upon Western practicality, scientific method and logic, enhanced the holistic mysticism and spirituality of Eastern thought, in a continuous stream of articles written only to myself for the most part.

After this period I traveled to Fairfield Iowa to learn the TM technique of meditation, at the Maharishi University of Management.  For three years I worked there as part of the volunteer staff, and learned much about he Vedas and also about some of the problems that can occur when a spiritual organization gets too large or dogmatic for its own good.

In November of 1997 I traveled to the jungle camps of the Shaman known as Don Agustin Rivas, of Iquitos Peru.  There I apprenticed with him for a period of four months, three of which were spent in complete or nearly complete isolation in the Peruvian jungle, not far from the Amazon river.  Under Don Agustins’ guidance, I underwent several purging diets and took the “Madre Medicina” known as Ayahuasca some 60 times.  This highly hallucinogenic substance enabled me to purify myself in an in-depth manner, especially since I combined it invariably with my own form of meditation.  During this four month period, I spent much of my time every day writing a book entitled, The Evolution of God, which is in essence a treatise on the expansion of consciousness, complete with six different meditational techniques and a host of occult principles/natural laws.  Upon returning to the United States, I spent much of the next year refining this initial work, though it is not currently being published.  I lived nomadically in my van until recently, in such places as the national forests of Washington state, Virginia and West Virginia.  Based upon my experiences with this lifestyle, I co-authored a book entitled; The Survivalists’ Guide for the New Millennium, which is posted in its entirety on our website.  Http://www.eoni.com/~visionquest  Also on this site is a collection of WMS short articles, based primarily upon excerpts from the Evolution of God, as well as recent revelations.

At this point I/we are primarily committed to the cause of furthering global enlightenment, via the vehicle of the World Mind Society.  My aim is to network as many people as possible who are of similar Intention, to support organizations who do the same, and to bring forth a new era in human history.  I consider myself a spiritual revolutionary, who combines both the approaches of thoroughly questioning the materialistic status quo, (this is what the Survivalists’ Guide is partly about) and to aid the human condition through the agencies of love and clarity.  These goals are those of my soul, and which I have known about since the mid 1960s’.  Currently I live in La Grande Oregon, coordinating the WMS, and its on-going Global Group Mind Meditations.  The WMS also coordinates with other meditational organizations.  This it does to promote the maximum group mind effect that can be achieved, for the purpose of greater world Enlightenment.
